One Sunday for the Whole World
Next Sunday, October 19th, Pope Benedict XVI calls every Catholic in the world to celebrate our vocation to be a missionary.  It’s World Mission Sunday!  As Catholics around the world - here at home and in the Missions - gather at the Eucharist around the table of the Lord, we are to pray for the Church’s worldwide missionary work.  We pray for those awaiting the “Good News” of our Lord’s great love for us and for the missionaries who offer the poor and suffering the light of Christ.  And we are to offer financial help through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith for more than 1,150 dioceses in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Pacific Islands.  Envelopes are available in the pews.

Challenged Athlete Foundation
On Sunday, October 26th, Fr. Tom will participate in the San Diego Triathlon Challenge.  This ½ Ironman event is the primary fundraiser for The Challenged Athletes Foundation which supports athletes with handicaps and assists them in various ways.  This year will be Fr. Tom’s 10th time doing this event.  If you would like to support this foundation and his participation in this event you can speak to him about it, go to the challenged athletes website: challengedathletes.org, or make a contribution to CAF and put it into the collection (clearly marked CAF).  Sometimes those with handicaps are not treated equal by others.  Supporting this foundation is another way you can promote life and respecting all life. Go to the website for some awesome photos and information.

Catholic Teaching on Marriage  - Pope Benedict and Marriage
“Only the rock of complete and irrevocable love between man and woman is capable of acting as a foundation for a society that can be home to all human beings.”   ——Pope Benedict XVI, addressing the John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and the Family, May 11, 2006.

Marriage pre-exists Church and Government
“Marriage is an ancient, yet modern, human institution which pre-exists both Church and government.  Marriage, history shows us, is intrinsic to stable, flourishing and hospitable societies.  Although cultural differences have occurred, what has never changed is that marriage is the ideal relationship between a man and a woman for the purpose of procreation and the continuation of the human race.”  ——The Catholic Bishops of California, 2008.  For more information  about the Catholic teaching on marriage, please visit: www.cacatholic.org.

NO GUM IN CHURCH
Recently we have found a great deal of gum on the pews and in the carpet.  Not only is it difficult to remove, it is extremely disrespectful to our holy place of worship.  Please dispose of your gum properly before you enter Church.  Thank you.

Catholic Teaching On Marriage
“You don’t need religious faith to see that marriage is a unique relationship between a man and a woman.  What defines this relationship is the fact that it is a partnership based on sexual complementarity.  That makes possible the fulfillment of the two co-equal purposed of marriage: mutual love between spouses and the procreation of children.  No other human relationship, no matter how loving or carting or generative it might be, can make this claim or deliver on it.”
 —
H. Richard McCord, executive director of the U.S. Bishops’ Secretariat of Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth.  For more information about the Catholic teaching on marriage, please visit: www.cacatholic.org

Did You Know? - Learn to “stop” inappropriate activity before it happens
Child safety tip: Teach your child to respect the word “stop!”  Teach your preschooler that “stop” means “stop” and that your child has the right to stop people from touching his or her body.  Obviously, exceptions will have to be made for doctors and parents, but even parents must listen when a child does not want to be tickled or hugged anymore.  Reinforcing this excellent lesson gives your child the power to recognize -- and to stop -- “bad touching” by others if it should happen.

Church Conduct
The Church is first and foremost a place of prayer and worship.  Please respect God’s house and take your conversations outside or to the vestibule of the Church.   This demonstrates not only respect for God’s house but also respect to your fellow parishioners who want a place of quite to pray before or after Mass.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Please Keep God’s House Clean
After each Mass please pick up around you before you leave the Church.  Please do not leave bulletins or other materials in the book holders and if your children pull out the envelopes, return them.  Please place the missals in the book holders.  Your help is appreciated and a clean Church honors God.
