Environment
In your Sunday envelopes you may have noticed an envelope
titled Environment. This refers to the decorations used for the Church
(flowers, etc.). The reason it is called environment rather than
decorations is that in the Church the decorations attempt to create a
certain feel or environment. For example, during Lent the environment
should reflect the barrenness of the desert. Recall in the older days when
the statues were all covered with purple during Lent. This is to help us
recall Jesus’ journey into the desert where things and life are more simple
and plain, a journey which we are called to enter during the Lenten season.
Easter environment, on the other hand, should create a feeling of life. The
baptismal fountain, Easter lilies and other flowers help create such an
environment. We do more than decorate, we create an environment which should
enhance your appreciate of certain seasons of the Church year. Your use of
these envelopes and your ongoing support are appreciated. |
