Christmas Season
The Christmas Season concludes tomorrow (January 9th) with the Baptism of
the Lord. Normally this is a Sunday, but when Christmas and New Years Day
are Sundays this celebration is moved to the Monday after Epiphany. The
Church celebrates Christmas in a different manner than the world. The malls
and radio stations focus on Christmas before December 25th while
the Church focuses on December 25th and following. We continue
to sing Christmas carols and leave the Christmas environment up in the
Church until the season concludes. The Christmas celebration doesn’t
conclude on December 25th, it only begins. As follows of Christ,
we are to recognize what the Church is teaching us through this season.
Christmas hope, life and love are to move into the new year. We are to help
bring the wonderful gift of life which we receive through Jesus’ birth to
bear on our world and on this new year. |
