Welcome to our Pastoral Intern
My name is Eben MacDonald and I am very happy and excited
to have been assigned to Sacred Heart Parish for the next ten months as
a pastoral intern. By way of introduction, I wanted to share a little of
my personal history. I am a late vocation. I am 45 years old. I was born
in Columbus, Ohio, was raised in Flint, Michigan, and am the oldest of
six children. I have lived in the Los Angeles area for the past 22
years. As a young man I had dreams of becoming a professional actor and
I completed a B.A. in Theatre Arts in 1987. After college, I enjoyed a
seventeen year career in retail management with Pier One Imports and
briefly managed a real estate office before entering the seminary in
Fall 2006. I have completed the Pre-Theology program and two years of
theology at Saint John’s. With God’s help I hope to be ordained a priest
in 2012.
Over the course of the coming weeks I will share my
vocation story as well as my ongoing discernment during my priestly
formation. I look forward to journeying with this parish community over
the coming months and look forward to the opportunity to meet and talk
with you. As we say in the seminary, the seminary can teach us theology,
but it is the people who will teach us how to be priests. For these
next ten months Sacred Heart Church is going to be my seminary, and you
will be my teachers and formators. I look forward to learning from all
of you, and hearing your hopes and dreams for the Church and for your
priests. May God Bless you all! |
