My Journey
I was born a cradle
Catholic. Growing up I attended church regularly but, I really didn’t know
much about my faith or the teachings of the church.
In January 2003 I started my first baby steps into the beginning of my
journey. That month my husband was deployed to Iraq. I was full of all
kind of emotions but for the most part I was very scared. I didn’t know
when he would be back or when I would be able to hear from him. I got
involved in activities with other wives going through the same situation to
keep busy and ease my mind. I knew both my husband and I needed the
strength to get through this tough time. The only thing that would give us
the strength we both needed was to have faith in God and a lot of prayer. I
began going to church and devoted myself to prayer for my husband and all of
our service men and women. I soon started to feel an amazing feeling come
over me, I knew that my husband was going to be fine. In May 2003 my
husband came back home. I felt so blessed and thankful we were together
again.
This experience to me was my reality check. I was a hypocrite. I always
claim to be a Catholic, but I honestly did not know anything. I think my
little seed was planted. I wanted to find out what my Catholic beliefs were
all about. I also wanted to get married through the church. Unfortunately,
I let an entire year go by before I made a commitment. I wanted God to be
the base of our family and teach my son about God and our Catholic
traditions. So before I could teach my son I had to learn myself.
In August 2005 my husband and I joined RCIA. That was the best decision I
had ever made! My journey has been amazing. I look at things in a totally
different way. I have become a better person. I have found a strength in
me I never knew I had. I have this enormous love in my heart, it is an
indescribable feeling. A fulfillment that I needed and only God can give
me. Deacon John has taught me so much about God and our church teachings.
I have found new friends that have helped me through this journey. I love
them very much. I also received a very special sponsor through my classes
that has helped me more than ever and has showed me what it is to be a true
Catholic by example.
This class has been a true blessing. My journey has not been easy. Living
your faith is a lifestyle you have to adjust to, but I wouldn’t have it any
other way. I can’t wait to receive the Holy Eucharist. |
