Rite of Christian Initiation
I decided two years ago that I wanted the Catholic faith to
be a part of my life. The reasoning behind that decision was very personal.
I had hurt people I loved and was doing things I was ashamed of and my life
was going in the wrong direction. I had to make a change in the way I was
living my life – and that’s when I decided I was going to become Catholic.
I was inspired by my husband – his faith gave him the courage and strength
to forgive me for all the ways I had hurt him and our family and I was to be
as strong as him. I also had a couple of friends and some in-laws that were
practicing Catholics, and I saw how deeply they love the Church. I wanted
my son to have what I didn’t – I didn’t have religion in my life when I was
a child and I think that maybe if I had, some of the choices I had made in
my life would have been different. But now, I can give that gift to my
son. I truly know that my baptism will be my “re-birth” and I can’t wait.
My journey will be far from over when RCIA ends. The faith has so much to
offer and there is always so much to learn. Joining RCIA and becoming a
Catholic has been a life changing experience and a truly precious gift.
