Just
Here To Check It Out
So I come home from work one day to my beautiful
wife and son who was to start school soon. My wife informs me that she
would like to get back into the Catholic Church and that she has enrolled my
son in Sacred Heart School. At this point I was dead set against my
son going to a Catholic school thinking that I would be left out of that
part of his life. You see I was very ignorant to the Catholic
religion. I wanted to support my getting back into the church, but I
did not want to be left out with my son. So after some gentle
persuasion from family members I decided to attend a RCIA meeting with my
wife, just to see what was going on.
The first
thing that I remember hearing was a man saying that the church has had its
challenges in the past in the present and would in the future. This
was the first time I had ever heard someone speak so honestly about any
religion. So the next week I attended class and started to hear what
was being said but made it perfectly clear to the person interviewing me
that I was just here to support my wife and son. So I attended
class the next week and my heart started to hear what was being said.
The next
class I started to ask questions that helped me to dispel all the things I
had heard about Catholics. Then I started to look at the people in the
class and saw that they were finding something that I did not know that I
was even looking for. I began to feel part of the class and found
myself making changes in my life and not really knowing why. Then
after attending Mass every Sunday and continuing classes I felt that I had
become a part of the church. At that point I made a commitment to
myself to change.
My wife and I
were married in the church and I started my journey towards Baptism and the
full Sacraments of the church.
I can not
express to you the feelings of joy that I have experienced since committing
to this journey or how hard some of transition has been. I can share
with you the reward of being part of a family that loves and supports you.
Not to bad for a guy just there to check things out. R.G. |
